Large Rain Totals Bring Pithlachascotee River Into Flood

Higher than normal rain totals for early 2015 have brought the levels of the Cotee River in New Port Richey beyond its banks. In the up-river areas near Frances Avenue park, East of the Madison Avenue and Grand Boulevard bridges, measurements indicate that the river’s level is two feet above the flood plain.

New Port Richey has had 10.01″ of rainfall for the year and 0.96″ in April. This year’s total rainfall is much higher than previous averages. The average between 2006-2012 for the same time period was 3″. 2008 was the only previous year to receive 10″ through April and also experienced mild flooding.
