Man shot in attempted home invasion

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office says that Anthony Capuano, 38, knocked on the door at 6912 Alta Vista Lane at 11 PM on Wednesday. Police say he was armed with a handgun. According to the arrest affadavit, when the resident, Heidi Christophell, 22, wouldn’t let him in he broke a window to gain entry.

Police say Christophell retrieved a gun and shot Capuano twice. Capuano is a known member of the Latin Kings street gang, according to authorities. Capuano fled the scene in a white Chevy Impala before crashing into a house down the road.

He was transported to a hospital and is listed in critical condition. Capuano has previous arrests in Pasco County including one for DUI and two for possession of marijuana. After the shooting, Deputies found more than a pound of marijuana at the house on Alta Vista Lane. When Christophell’s boyfriend, Steven Joseph Brown, 21 returned he was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession or use of paraphernalia. Brown was subsequently released on $5,150 bond.

At a press conference, Pasco County Sheriff had little sympathy, “Don’t think that these were just innocent people just sitting in their house,” he said, “that some suspect came in off the street and picked them randomly. If you’re selling drugs, you could be the next victim.”
