According to New Port Richey Police, Andrew “Junk” Herman, 28, of New Port Richey, was arrested last night a vehicle in which he was a passenger was stopped near Rowan Road and Main Street and a K-9 officer was deployed who alerted on the presence of narcotics. The driver, Lacey Diane Cannara, 24, of New Port Richey was arrested for driving with a suspended license, possession of cocaine and possession of paraphernalia.

According to a Facebook post by the New Port Richey Police Department, “Officers then went to question the rear seat passenger, Andrew “Junk” Herman, 28, of New Port Richey. Officers began a pat down of Herman when Herman turned and pushed the K-9 officer. Another officer grabbed Herman, and as they did so Herman pushed and battered both officers. Herman struggled with the officers across two southbound lanes of Rowan Road, the median and two northbound lanes of Rowan Road. During this entire time Herman was struggling, punching and trying to push away the officers. The struggle ensued to the east side shoulder of the northbound lanes of Rowan Road.”

The two officers deployed Tasers twice to no effect and Herman continued to fight the officers. K-9 Officer Roever then bit Herman once and Herman punched the dog. The dog released and bit the suspect a second time, subduing Herman enough for officers to take him into custody.

One officer suffered a broken thumb and the K-9 handler was accidentally bitten and also accidentally tased. Herman was charged with possession of Heroin, possession of Cocaine, three counts of possession of a controlled substance, four counts of resisting an officer with violence, battery of a law enforcement officer, and striking a police dog.
