NPRPD Officer Francis Downey Charged with Fleeing from Hernando Deputy on Motorcycle

The Hernando County Sheriff arrested New Port Richey Police Officer Francis Downey last Thursday after a deputy attempted to pull Downey and his girlfriend, Tiffany Brush, over for speeding on Cortez Boulevard in the early hours of Thursday morning. Brush was arrested after her motorcycle crashed and she fled on foot, and was later reported by hospital staff when she came in for treatment. According to the Sheriff’s police report, Brush said that she was scared to tell them the name of the driver of the other motorcycle, because he is a New Port Richey police officer.

Brush was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and fleeing to elude a police officer, in addition to her speeding ticket. The New Port Richey Police Department has started an internal investigation against Officer Francis Downey, and he was advised to turn himself in to the Hernando County Sheriff. Downey has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. Downey was charged with fleeing to elude a police officer, and was cited for speeding.
