In an effort to encourage biking in New Port Richey and to improve the “bikeability” of the downtown area, Greater New Port Richey Main Street and a local development group have set up a “crowdsourced” map of the area where residents and visitors can submit places that they would like to see bike racks installed.

The group is hoping that individuals will mark multiple locations on the map and that they can then track the “hotspots” which would be most popular.

New Port Richey does already have bike racks at some park locations and a few public buildings, including City Hall and the library, and Sims Park. Some of the places noted on the new map include the downtown Business Incubator and the workout areas around Orange Circle. Looking at the map, there are not many clear routes that bikes would take through the City. Where do you head on your bike, and if you don’t, why not?

You can view and submit locations on the map here.

Let us know in the comments below: where did you suggest a bike rack? Do you think this will improve the “bikeability” of New Port Richey, or is more needed?

  1. City bike rack map. This is a fantastic idea to encourage more biking around the local area. It is a great place to bike.
I tried to drop a couple of pins on the map but can’t follow the instructions or something went wrong.
I would like to see bike racks at Francis Ave park and James Grey Preserve as well.

    1. The idea is to suggest locations for NEW bike racks. If you e-mail me the locations that you would like pins placed, I’d be happy to place them for you. The interface is a little difficult.
