For more context:
As mentioned, in the podcast, things are hectic right now. Major hospital evacuation, Tropical Storm Hermine moving past us, closed schools, and the potential for some coastal flooding, and other severe weather.
But I’d like us to take a moment, and consider how lucky we are. Watch this video:
The neighborhood is in French Settlement, Louisiana, in Livingston Parish. Our first guest, today, is organizing a “Flood of Hope” benefit to raise supplies and relief money for the hundreds of thousands of Americans who have lost their homes. In Livingston Parish ALONE, it’s over 100,000 people…and EIGHTY PERCENT of all buildings in the parish are damaged. Churches, schools, business, stores, fire and police stations…All flooded.
Stevie Lovell is coordinating the benefit, which will be held Saturday, from noon to 8pm, at Bobkatz Bar, on U.S.19, in Hudson…It’s in the K Mart Plaza, right next to Coney Family Hair Salon.
We are so lucky to have folks like Stevie, and the hundreds like her, here in Pasco County. Keep doing good things, folks!
Our second guest is actually LIVING in the town in the video, above…French Settlement. I’ve included a map, below, to give you an idea of where the flooding is:
I have friends in Denham Springs, and they, too, have lost their entire downtown. This means not only no supplies, but no jobs, and children are expected to be out of most schools for another month. Other folks I know are living three generations deep, and that can be very stressful, as well, with kids home from school, and scant supplies.
So come on out to Bobkatz, in Hudson, this Saturday from Noon on…Get your drink on, listen to some great music with DJ Jeff, Corey Cottrell, Jeff Cook, and raffles and lots of other fun stuff! Donate generously, and remember what Angela said: National store gift cards are portable, and give the recipient the freedom to get the things they need! There is also a list of needed items below…I’ll see you there!
Don’t forget, it’s Thursday, so I’ll be out at the Gill Dawg Tiki Bar from 1-3pm! Come say hi, check in on Facebook, and get a free cocktail! See you there, as long as they’re open!
~Greg
