Heavy Rains Cause Flooding, Disabled Vehicles, Power Outages

More than two inches of rain fell in New Port Richey Tuesday night, causing moderate flooding in parts of New Port Richey that led to vehicle damage, closed roads, and power outages. Trouble Creek Road, Marine Parkway, and Dahlia Avenue experienced the most severe flooding.

Three vehicles were swept away by the waters and their occupants had to be rescued by New Port Richey Firefighters. Sections of the affected streets were closed by New Port Richey Police for more than three hours. The stranded vehicles later required towing.


Flooding was also reported in other areas of West Pasco. Duke Energy reported widespread power outages, affecting more than 200 customers in New Port Richey, according to its website. Power went out at approximately 10:05 PM in New Port Richey’s East Madison neighborhood. Power was restored by 3:00 am to all customers, according to Duke Energy.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 8:02 PM Tuesday, with the possibility of wind gusts in excess of 60 MPH. The area has received more than 15 inches of rain so far in 2015, above historical averages. The high rain totals have brought the Pithlachascotee River into flood.
