New Port Richey’s Street Lights will be LED by March, First in Pasco County

The City of New Port Richey is the first city in Pasco County’s Duke Energy network to replace its streetlights with energy saving LED fixtures. The City, along with its partner Duke Energy, invites all residents to a ribbon-cutting event onFriday, February 13, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. near the intersection of Grand Blvd. and Circle Blvd.

The conversion of the remaining 1,600 streetlights is anticipated to be to be completed by March. LED fixtures produce the same amount of light as regular sodium vapor lights but with less energy. Some estimates show that the new lights can reduce the cost of lighting by up to 70% and will generate less light pollution as the light is more directional. The new lights are also less likely to malfunction, resulting in reduced maintenance costs.

There will be minimal impact to residents during the conversion process, as all work will be done in roadways. Residents may see uniformed Duke Energy contractors wearing reflective vests and badges that identify themselves as working with Duke Energy.
