Learning Lodge Academy, the charter school seeking approval at a site just north of Gulf High School at 5936 School Road, was approved for a special exception of use by council members in a unanimous vote. Kerry Cuffe, the Founder and Director of Learning Lodge Academy, was present at the meeting in support of her application. She said that there was “Much excitement from the community” and that the school already has 200 applicants. “We’ll have highly skilled and trained teachers,” she said,”I have parents who want to make a pizza garden.” Mrs. Cuffe said that the school won approval by the District School Board of Pasco County on its first application.
Council members discussed a traffic study done by the City prior to approving the plan.
City staff said that a daycare currently at the location has been notified of eviction from the premises and the charter school plans to open in August.
