Elderly Driver Puts Hole in 7-Eleven at Rowan Road and Main Street

Sheriff’s Deputies, Fire Rescue and the Highway Patrol responded to the scene of an elderly driver crashing through the East wall of a 7-Eleven this afternoon after an elderly male driver lost control of his vehicle in the parking lot.

Witnesses said that the driver got stuck on top of the parking curb and then gunned it in hopes of getting loose–he just forgot to put it in reverse.

“I heard the smash and was parked…” said Ricky Stephens, a bystander, “[the driver] was so old he had to get out with his walker. He had it in the back seat.”

Another gentleman, Tom, said he was sitting on the curb nearby when the driver “gunned it.” “He went through and I just got up and walked away. It was a good thing he was wearing his seat belt.”

No injuries were reported and the store closed for a short time while an officer interviewed the driver.
