According to meeting minutes, City Council members approved an estimated $1.5 million to install digital water meters on homes in the City. About half of the City’s current readers are not digital. Assistant Public Works Director Sherman Applegate said that the city could expect to save about $77,000 a year because the City will not have to hire contractors for meter reading.
Council members approved the measure citing improved accuracy and custom billing for City water customers while helping detect water leaks.
