New Port Richey’s leadership received a boost in numbers yesterday as former Mayors and Council members converged on New Port Richey’s Railroad Square to celebrate the City’s 90th anniversary. U.S. Senator Bill Nelson was also in attendance to speak about New Port Richey’s heritage. The grandson of W. H. Critchley, one of the first New Port Richey Council members, presented Mayor Rob Marlowe with his grandfather’s original gavel to use on “auspicious occassions.”
Band members from Gulf Middle School and Gulf High School provided entertainment along with the Suncoast Harmony Chorus, members of Gulf Middle School’s thespian troupe, and performers from the Richey Suncoast Theatre, and two time capsules were sealed to be opened in 2064.
Residents were offered the opportunity to purchase a commemorative coin from the event for $5.
The event lasted all day with tours of the city, a car show, and a film shown at the Richey Suncoast Theatre.
