Sierra Club Endorses Dell deChant for City Council of New Port Richey

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL – The Suncoast Sierra Club officially announces its endorsement of Dell deChant in his race to be elected for New Port Richey City Council. 

“We are excited to be endorsing Dell deChant in his campaign for City Council, ” said Sierra Club spokesperson Sasha Bartunek. “He has been such a strong civic-minded environmental advocate, educator and leader for more than 40 years.” 

A Florida native, Dell deChant and his wife, Maarilynn, have served on city council, city committees and boards, and have spearheaded projects including the Florida Loquat Festival, the Main Street and Tree City USA programs, and the City’s community garden initiative. Dell deChant will bring a calm, caring and conservative temperament with a “local first'” deliberations approach. He is guided by principles of fairness and harmony, ecological and cultural resilience, fiscal prudence and an abiding love of New Port Richey. 

A true leader, deChant has spearheaded the pursuit of Tree City USA designation; the Arbor Day celebration; establishment of the city’s mulch program; establishment of the city’s reforestation program along with the okra, collards and sweet potato festival events; successful pursuit of Monarch City USA designation; the creation of the Fruit Tree Peninsula and New Port Richey FarmNet, and supports recycling at City events. 

As a candidate for City Council and if elected, deChant is committed to and will advocate for City ownership of the Schwettman campus for public /community use in perpetuity.
