New Port Richey’s incumbent Mayor Rob Marlowe won a new term last week by default after the City and Supervisor of Elections announced that no other candidates had qualified for the race.
This will be Mayor Marlowe’s third three-year term and final consecutive term as Mayor. He has served since 2014. Marlowe will be ineligible due to term limits in the next 2023 Mayoral election.
Marlowe has also previously served on City council as Deputy Mayor in 2012-2013 in addition to his previous terms on City Council.
Marlowe operates Gulf Coast Networking, an IT support business in downtown New Port Richey in operation since the early 2000s. He is a graduate of Gulf High School, and has an MBA from the University of Florida. He has described himself as a “proud Grandfather” of six grandchildren.
I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to lead New Port Richey forward for the next three years. My fellow members of the city council and I have been successful in starting quite a few initiatives and I look forward to seeing those initiatives through to their conclusion. I am particularly excited to see the Hacienda being restored to its former glory as a boutique hotel right in downtown New Port Richey.
Many challenges remain: We have set the stage for the revitalization of the Palm District as well as started the process of cleaning up US 19. We have started the process of fixing up the whole city, including the residential neighborhoods, to make New Port Richey even more attractive as a place to live, work, and play.
Finally, we have started the discussion on how to make our city more resilient in the face of rising sea levels and what steps we can take as a community to reduce our contribution to the problem. These efforts will take far longer than the next three years, but it is imperative that we build a foundation now for the city leaders that will follow us.
It is an exciting time to live in New Port Richey and I look forward to seeing how much we can accomplish together over the next three years.
