What: Book discussion with local author!

This book offers an exposition of the relationship of religion and culture with a focus on the unique form of this relationship in the West (Europe and America). It presents basic understandings of concepts such as religion, culture, and society. Designed for introductory college courses and general readers, it offers an overview of the major forms of religion, the process of secularization, and the status of religion in the contemporary West.
“Dell deChant demonstrates mastery of the more central and salient issues presented in the multifaceted and sometimes dense scholarly discussions of religion and culture in the Western world today,” commented Danny L. Jorgensen, Ph.D., a professor of Religious Studies at the University of South Florida.

Dell deChant is a Master Instructor in the Department of Religious Studies at The University of South Florida where he has served since 1986. The author of three books, and over 40 articles and chapters in professional publications, deChant is a specialist in religion and contemporary cultures currently focusing on the contemporary ecological crisis as it manifests in American popular culture and religion.
