GMS’s ‘Aunt Leslie’ Honored as Pasco’s Outstanding Senior School Volunteer

Spread the love

Gulf Middle School and Pasco Schools are celebrating the service of Ms. Leslie Thiel, known at the school as “Aunt Leslie,” as the District’s Outstanding Senior Volunteer of the Year.

The honor is awarded based on the number of hours and years of service in addition to the “unique characteristic of services performed.” The award recognizes one student, adult, and senior volunteer in Florida’s five regions.

According to the award application Mrs. Thiel contributed more than 242 hours this school year at Gulf Middle School alone helping with computer and building maintenance. She also runs the school’s “student incentive” awards program which organizes events and rewards for good students. Gulf’s staff went on to call Mrs. Thiel “invaluable.”

Mrs. Thiel graduated from Gulf Middle School more than 50 years ago, according to her application, and also went to the campus when it was originally Gulf High School.
